#1 IKHR: www.internationalkunekunehogregistry.com

The original Kunekune registry founded by Lori Enright in 2006.  Was originally AKBA and then AKPR.

Provide breeder prefix’s for a $40 annual fee.

No charge for all processing of paperwork.

All paperwork is digital.

Requires DNA verification for registration.

Strong focus on pork production.

Maintains online foundation Herd Book.

Have color designations of Tapeka Trait, High Percentage White, Ivanleigh Blended Belly Band and Swallow Belly.

Require two wattles for registration.

Require ten+ even teets for registration.

Require litter notification.

Allow artificial insemination.

Offer three virtual national shows each year; a spring, fall and Christmas show.

Require an ear tag for registration.

Record won titles in the herd book.

Showing:

Offer boar and sow breeding classes, market classes, specialty classes and showmanship.

Must be an IKHR registered owner to show or a family member.

Hogs older than one year must be registered in the herd book.

Hogs under one year must be litter notified.

Relatively expensive show entry fees (around $25).

Post coming show dates months in advance.

Show etiquette:

Closed toed shoes.

Can use a whip, cane, stick or bat.

Brushes allowed.

No false hair/ pigmented grooming aids or materials/ hoof paint.

Videos 60-90 seconds.

Videos shot horizontal.

No talking in videos.

Videos should be shot at the animal’s height.

Videos should show all angles of the animal.

Video cannot zoom.

Baiting not allowed.

Hog boards not allowed.

Long pants/jeans required.

Button or polar shirt or blouse required.

No shorts, t-shirts, hoodies or sweatshirts.  

No farm logos or names on showman or posted in video.

Show separate from other animals.

Do not alter/edit your raw video.


#2 AKKPS: americankunekunepigsociety.org

The second Kunekune hog registry founded by members in 2013 and focused on breed preservation.

Provide breeder prefix’s for a $65 annual fee.

No charge for all processing of paperwork.

All paperwork is offered digitally although registrations can also be mailed in.

Printed and mailed pedigrees are available for a small fee in addition to the free digital versions.

Requires DNA verification for registration.

Maintains a public herd book.

Offers public COI calculator (coefficient of inbreeding).

Recognize belted color designations.

Allows unwattled and uni-wattled pigs for registration.

Allows any teet line for registration.

Offer two national shows each year, co-sanctioned  with EKPA.

Require an ear tag, microchip, or tattoo for registration.

Record won titles in the herd book.

Offer two members only Facebook pages.

Monthly newsletter.

Breeders and members lists available to the public.

Assigned directors help members with questions and issues.

The newest Kunekune breed registry established in 2022.

Organization focused on educating members about the breed.

Offers an online herd book.

Newsletters and member zoom meetings.

Registration allowed for unwattled, uni-wattled and wattled hogs.

Features specific breeders in social media and breeder lists on the website and in the herd book. Feature all members on social media.

Paperwork can be done digitally or by mail.

Offer multiple registration levels and a pay as you go membership level.

Registration fee for members is $10 or free with some membership levels.

Litter notification for members is $10 or free with some membership levels.

Transfer fee for members is $8 or free with some membership levels.

Provide sales contracts to members.

Free farm ads in classified section of the website.

Accepts microchips, ear tags, and tattoos as permanent identification.

Host a very rigorous and supportive youth program.

Do not allow IKKPS registered pigs to participate in programs.

Excellent mentorship program.

Memberships are $40 a year.

Offer farm listings on EKPA website.

Offer a scholarship program.

Co-sanction two national shows each year with AKKPS.
